Efficient Corset

Hey I am Jeanique

Welcome, I am so excited that you stopped by. I love The Classical Pilates Method, and I want to share everything I have learned to inspire your practice.

Recap Efficient Corset to keep your back strong

We’ve arrived at one of the most beautiful times of the year – the end of the year! It’s the perfect moment to reflect, refresh, and look forward to new beginnings filled with possibilities. Back home, people love to repaint their houses to welcome the new year with a fresh start. It makes me wonder—if they knew how to engage their “corset” while balancing on the ladder for those hard-to-reach wall corners, would they realize they were unconsciously building natural corset strength?

What the Pilates Corset Is (and Isn’t): A refresher for more experienced movers.

The Pilates Corset isn’t about gripping; rather, it involves activating the powerhouse muscles that wrap around your spine, providing essential support and stability. This support is crucial for many daily activities—whether lifting something heavy, sitting, coughing, or even during childbirth. It also helps protect your organs and enhances your ability to twist and pull effectively. When engaged correctly, you’ll perform more efficiently and have more energy.

Tapping into this core engagement can be challenging, especially if you’re just starting. If that applies to you, I recommend watching this video, where I cover the basics and demonstrate how to find and apply your “corset” effectively. The video starts at 2:10 minutes and runs until 10 minutes, so you can try this before beginning your practice.

For those of you who are already familiar with this concept, today’s video will take it a step further. We’ll review a few foundational exercises to help you reconnect with these principles and apply them throughout the class.

Let’s embrace the new year by strengthening and protecting ourselves from the inside out!
