Open leg rocker, jackknife, corkscrew and all exercises you will ever do on your back while raising your legs above your head come from the rolling like a ball exercise. Curling your spine and contracting your abdominals strengthens your core muscles and bones. Remember your organs – they are attached to your spine – they also get a nice massage. And for all these wonderful benefits to materialise from one simple move, we need a strong spine.
When you breathe, a sense of aliveness naturally happens; your stomach should be able to lift inwards and upwards. Start to sense that.
So why am I talking about the spine when the focus for this month was feet and in the above exercises, all you do is dangle them while your spine is seemingly the real workhorse? Well, your spine is a workhorse because your diligent work on your feet made it become it. When you strengthen your feet, you open a thousand and thousands of nerves that live in your spine. And the central nervous system is in charge of awakening all those muscles and organs.
See how deep your feet got you? The brain also loves it because when the spine moves, the brain gets stimulated. So purchase a small ball at home and use it after a long walk, massage your feet any chance you get or gift yourself a reflexology massage because moving the feet can trigger your happy hormones.
