FAQ
What Is Pilates?
Pilates is a body condition regime invented by Joseph H. Pilates that uses six principles to strengthen the body, enhance the mind, and increase flexibility.
I am new at Pilates; how should I start?
It’s a great idea to start with private classes to receive personalized attention from an experienced Pilates Teacher who will then recommend the right class based on your strength. Private classes will also allow you to understand your body’s movements better.
.
What do I need to wear while practicing Pilates
When practising Pilates, wearing comfortable and breathable clothing that allows you to move freely is essential. It’s best to avoid anything too tight or restrictive, as this can limit your range of motion and hinder your ability to perform certain exercises.
In addition to comfortable clothing, we also advise wearing anti-slippery socks or Pilates-specific footwear, especially if you’re practising on equipment like a Reformer or Cadillac. Anti-slippery socks have grips on the sole that provide better traction, which can help prevent slips and falls and keep you safe during your practice.
.
How many times should I practice Pilates per week?
As a general guideline, practicing Pilates 2-3 times per week can help you maintain your current level of strength, flexibility, and balance. If you want to see significant improvements in your body, consider increasing your practice to 4-5 times weekly. It’s important to note that Pilates is a low-impact form of exercise that places minimal stress on your joints and cardiovascular system. This means that, unlike high-impact activities like running or jumping, you can practice Pilates more frequently without risking injury or overtraining.
My goal is to lose weight, will Pilates be beneficial?
Pilates can help increase lean muscle mass, boosting metabolism and burning calories more efficiently. Additionally, Pilates can improve posture and alignment, leading to better muscle activation and increased calorie burn during daily activities. However, pairing your Pilates practice with a healthy diet supporting your weight loss goals is crucial. Consulting with a professional naturopath or nutritionist can help you design a nutrition plan tailored to your body’s needs and ensure that you’re eating nutritious food to support your weight loss journey. Overall, Pilates can be a beneficial part of a weight loss program, but it should be combined with a healthy diet and lifestyle for optimal results.
