Pilates breathing
The benefit of good breathing in Pilates is one great healthy cycle. When you move, the breathing part in Pilates allows the muscles to open, lengthen, and strengthen. This further gets your tendons and ligaments stronger, which then helps your joints to decompress. It’s like a good domino effect, and that’s how we get stronger in Pilates.
It’s crucial to breathe in Pilates, but even more so when doing Matwork, as you have to support your body weight.
What if my breath is short? What then? I hear you.
No Pilates practitioner started with being able to have full stamina in their practice, just like no swimmer began by being able to hold their breath underwater for long. Staying focused while taking air inside your lungs will challenge your body to move with rhythm and pace, improving your overall stamina.
Your task is simple BREATHE . @jeaniquepilates
The good news is this is a learnable skill. Like the boss Joe said, ” above all, learn how to breathe correctly.” It starts by understanding that every move you make begins with a breath. Your task is simple – BREATHE.
Today’s practice is about synchronising your movement with your breath, making sure that you breathe throughout your movement. But you can practice with me right now. We’ll do it together.
Take a watch or use your iPhone. Take a deep breath and count 1,2,3,4 until you can’t take any more air. Now stay in that position, let your rib cage expand, and let the air come out nice and slow by squeezing your abs to deflate your lungs.
What we will cover today:
- There are small muscles within the upper that contribute to breathing. We’re going to start by opening those muscles to breathe easier.
- This great physio exercise works well with your breath to release back pain.
