Pilates has become a popular exercise method worldwide, with various types and approaches being taught today. Before starting your Pilates practice, it’s important you’re aware of these 5 tips that can help you save a lot disappointments and also keep you safe during your practice
1/Do your research and find a suitable method that aligns with your goals and preferences.
Define your goals to know what you want to achieve from your Pilates sessions, and make sure the Pilates studio that you pick is aligned with your goals and preferences because not all studios are built equally.
2/Reformer Pilates is not a method.
While the Reformer is a well-known piece of equipment in Pilates, it’s important to note that it is NOT a Pilates method itself. Joseph Pilates also invented other equipment, such as the Chair and the Cadillac/Tower. Alongside the mat exercises, Pilates can be practised using these three pieces of equipment. You can reach your goals using any of these equipment which Joseph built to help enhanced your strength and help rehabilitate your injuries
3/ Where does Pilates come from
. The origin of Pilates is called – Classical Pilates, which refers to the method that follows Joseph Pilates’ (the inventor) original work and tradition. Some studios, like ours, adhere to the Classical Pilates method from The Pilates Centre in Boulder, Colorado. If you are interested in experiencing the traditional Pilates approach, seeking out a studio that follows the Classical method can be beneficial.
4. Breathing is quintessential to Pilates.
Breathing plays a central role in Pilates practice. Take the time to understand and learn how to breathe properly, as it is an essential component of your Pilates sessions. Proper breathing techniques can enhance your movements, improve body awareness, and help you achieve optimal results.
5. How to get the most out of your Pilates session.
To fully immerse yourself in your Pilates practice and get the most out of each session, it is advisable to minimize distractions. Consider leaving your Apple Watch, iPhone, or any other potential distractions outside the studio or turning them off during your practice. Concentration and mindfulness are key to progress and achieving the desired benefits of Pilates.
