Hey I am Jeanique

Welcome, I am so excited that you stopped by. I love The Classical Pilates Method, and I want to share everything I have learned to inspire your practice.

Pilates has become a popular exercise method worldwide, with various types and approaches being taught today. Before starting your Pilates practice, it’s important to be aware of these five tips—they can help prevent disappointments and keep you safe during your sessions.

1. Do your research and find a method that aligns with your goals and preferences.

Define your goals and determine what you want to achieve from your Pilates sessions. Ensure that the studio you choose aligns with your goals and preferences, as not all studios are the same.

2. Reformer Pilates is not a method.

While the Reformer is a well-known piece of equipment in Pilates, it’s essential to know that it is NOT a Pilates method itself. Joseph Pilates also invented other equipment, such as the Chair and the Cadillac/Tower, in addition to mat exercises. Pilates can be practised using any of these pieces of equipment, each designed to enhance strength and rehabilitate injuries.

3. Where does Pilates come from?

The original form of Pilates is called Classical Pilates, which follows the work and tradition of Joseph Pilates, the founder. Some studios, like ours, adhere to the Classical Pilates method from The Pilates Center in Boulder, Colorado. If you’re interested in experiencing the traditional approach, consider finding a studio that follows the Classical method.

4. Breathing is essential in Pilates.

Breathing plays a central role in Pilates practice. Take the time to understand and learn proper breathing techniques, as they are essential to effective Pilates practice. Proper breathing enhances movement, improves body awareness, and helps you achieve optimal results.

5. How to get the most out of your Pilates session.

To fully immerse yourself in your Pilates practice, minimize distractions. Consider leaving devices like your Apple Watch, iPhone, or other distractions outside the studio or turn them off during your session. Concentration and mindfulness are key to progress and achieving the benefits of Pilates.
