Deeper breathing, deeper practice

Part 1 - Breathing is a free tool for life

‘ The Metaphysical correlate to breathing is awareness of self, and the connecting quality is attention.’ ~ Pilates path for health

Every time I read these words, I find myself taking a deep breath. Joseph Pilates wanted us to breathe because he had asthma, and he lived in an era of division and war. Whoever witnessed world War 1 and 2 would say that was a bad time. We may not have to face that time again, but we have to deal with other situations, and we do live in a world where stress is inevitable. Let us return back to the breath so that we can all be transported to a relaxed place whenever we want.

You know you’re going deeper in your practice when breathing has become your main focus.

Pilates is a practice of returning to the breath. Of course, we want to end back pain, grow stronger, and build endurance, which is why we should prioritize breathing. When you pay attention to what causes stress, lower back pain, and posture, it’s easy to figure out the problem. I’ll give you a hint – It’s anything that impairs breathing.

Breathing is a free tool for life.

One thought can change our vibration and so will one breath. One simple conscious breath can completely change your mood and feelings.  You know you’re going deeper in your practice when breathing has become your main focus.

When we don’t breathe, we hold tension, and when we’re tense, we can’t move; when we can’t move, we can’t breathe. And round and round it goes. So breathing is also about releasing, which is why breathing is the principle and a guideline of Pilates. But that’s not the end.

There’s nothing a deep breath can’t solve.

I’m here to remind you, again and again, to breathe if you need a recap to go to that video

This week we learn to synchronize movement with breath, it may be a level 1, but you can still get a lot out of it.

My question for you today – have breathing become an integral part of your practice yet? How do you know?
