The Reformer

The Reformer Pilates

In basic terms, The Reformer is one of the pieces of equipment invented by The Founder Joseph Herbertus Pilates when he created The Pilates Method.

It’s a sliding bed attached to springs to provide resistance and with a pair of leather straps can can be use in hands or feet. The machine slides forward and back throughout the exercise. This adjustable resistance helps you to ‘reform’ muscular imbalances, tone, strengthen and lengthen the body without adding bulk for a fantastic all-over body workout, adding in challenge to your core against an unstable surface and increased tone for the arms, legs and spine.

The springs on Pilates equipment set at different resistance levels provide all kinds of stability challenges that develop core strength and promote better balance. For example, having less of the body on the reformer “moving carriage” is one of the ways Pilates exercises get more challenging. It means you would have to support more of your own body weight, and the machine has to be controlled by your deep core stabilizers. Paradoxically, when the springs are in a lighter setting, some exercises are more challenging for the core because it has to work harder to control and stabilize the movement—the stronger the core, the better the balance, posture, and overall well-being.

All of our equipment is Center Line crafted by The Taylor Sisters to support the Classical work.
