Increase your chest expansion with Pilatesarticles

Most people join Pilates for two main reasons: to improve their posture and increase core strength. Interestingly, these two goals are deeply connected. Improving posture begins with building core strength, but it requires uniform development of all muscles, so the body can always move and stand with power from its center.

Core strength starts with proper breathing, as the core muscles are directly involved in this process. Breathing acts as the link that connects the body to its center. Since the breathing muscles are located in the upper body, and the upper body is connected to the spine, arms, head, and chest, we need to address this entire part of the body simultaneously as we breathe. These muscles not only allow for movement of the upper body in various directions—including head movement—but also balance and counter the movements of the lower body.

Which brings us to the reason why building dynamic upper body strength is so important. It provides stability, balance, and fluidity, ensuring that all movements are supported by a strong and adaptable core.
